Adani Green Commissions India’s Largest Battery Storage
Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL), the green energy arm of Adani Group, announced on May26, 2026 that it has deployed the world’s single-largest single-location battery storage outside of China, and the largest in India. The deployment of a cumulative 3.37 Gigawatt-hour (GWh) battery energy storage system (BESS) has been commissioned at Khavda in Gujarat. The deployment includes the 1.37 GWh of dispatchable capacity that AGEL announced in March 2026, taking the total operational BESS capacity to 3.37 GWh.
The project is one of the fastest utility-scale battery storage deployments globally, having been delivered in 10 months from the commencement of its on-site construction.
AGEL has plans to add over 10 GWh of battery storage capacity and scale it to 50 GWh over the next five years.
In layman’s term, AGEL’s 3.37 GWh BESS provides enough clean energy for powering 1 million homes for an entire day. It can support peak electricity demands of cities like Indore, Chandigarh, and even the entire state of Goa, with enough power to light up 12 million LED bulbs continuously for 10 hours. The battery storage will keep renewable energy grids stable, while delivering clean energy at scale.
Speaking on the commissioning, Mr Sagar Adani, Executive Director, AGEL, said, “Large-scale energy storage will play a defining role in the next phase of India’s clean energy transition. As renewable energy capacity scales rapidly, storage infrastructure becomes critical for delivering reliable, round-the-clock clean power. With the commissioning of the 3.37 GWh BESS at Khavda, AGEL is strengthening the foundation for resilient, dispatchable and flexible energy systems. Our investments in battery storage reflect a long-term commitment to building future-ready clean energy infrastructure at global scale.”
