Rajasthan Power Capacity Fulfilled Neary 70 Percent By Renewable Energy: Pralhad Joshi

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi on a visit to Rajasthan to inaugurate a solar power project said that the state sourced nearly 70 percent of its power capacity from renewable energy. The Minister was in Rajasthan to inaugurate the Gorbea Solar Power Project when he called Rajasthan a beacon of hope, energy independence and self-reliance.

Mr Joshi noted that Rajasthan has over 35.7 GW of renewable energy projects installed, with 29.5 GW coming from solar and 5.2 coming from wind.

Mr Joshi said that more than 49,000 rooftop had been completed in the state, and more than 325 crore in subsidies disbursed under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. With 2.7 lakh applications received, the minister faster implementation.

Calling for accelerated deployment of wind-solar hybrid projects, he pointed out Rajasthan’s untapped wind potential of 284 gigawatts.

The Minister lauded Rajasthan’s Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma accelerating policy and investment reforms. Rajasthan adopted the Integrated Clean Energy Policy December 2024 with an ambitious target of 1,25,000 MW of energy generation, 90,000 MW from solar power, 25,000 MW from wind and hybrid energy, and 10,000 MW from hydro, pumped storage and battery energy storage systems. It also operationalised the Rajasthan Green Hydrogen Policy in 2023 that targets production of 2000 kilo tonnes per annum of green hydrogen by 2030.

Mr Joshi said that investments worth ₹ 6.57 lakh crore were signed in 2024 that focussed mainly on renewable energy and renewable energy.

He said, “Today, as we stand on this sun-blessed land, we are not merely inaugurating a facility we are heralding a new era of energy, hope, and self-reliance.”
