8k crore Hydro Electric Project Greenlit For Arunachal Pradesh
The Union Government on 12 August 2025 announced a major investment in the state of Arunachal Pradesh by approving the construction of Tato-II Hydro Electric Project (HEP).
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by PM Narendra Modi approved ₹8146.21 crore for the construction of the 700 MW Tato-II Hydro Electric Project (HEP) in Shi Yomi District of Arunachal Pradesh.
The Tato-II HEP will have an installed capacity of 700 MW (4X175) and is expected by be completed in 72 months. It will produce 2738.06 MU of energy that will help in improving the power supply position in Arunachal Pradesh as well as balancing the national grid.
The project will bring about a significant infrastructure improvement and social-economic development of the region. Arunachal Pradesh will get the benefit of 12% free power and another 1% towards Local Area Development Fund (LADF).
The project is a joint venture between North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd. (NEEPCO) and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh. The Union government will extend Rs.458.79 crore as budgetary support for construction of roads, bridges and associated transmission line under enabling infrastructure besides Central Financial Assistance of Rs.436.13 crore towards equity share of the State.
The construction of Tato-II HEP will bring about associated benefits such as development of 32.88 kms of roads and bridges. Shi Yomi district will also benefits from the construction of essential infrastructure such as hospitals, schools, marketplaces, playgrounds etc. that will be financed from a dedicated project funds of ₹20 crore.
