Renewable Capacity At 227 GW: Piyush Goyal
India’s renewable energy capacity now stands at 227 GW, an increase of nearly 4000% in its installed solar capacity. This was stated by Union Minister of Industry and Commerce Piyush Goyal. Mr Goyal made the statement while addressing the 11th India Energy Storage Week (IEWS) in New Delhi.
Expanding on this achievement, Mr Goyal said that India’s solar photovoltaic module capacity and photovoltaic cell capacity had risen 38-fold and 21-fold respectively. Additionally, he added, the government had launched a production linked scheme (PLI) programme to boost manufacturing of Advanced Chemistry Cells (ACC).
Further commenting on the growth in solar capacity, Mr Goyal noted several schemes by the government to achieve this milestone such as PM Surya Ghar Yojana, that aims to install 1 crore households with solar rooftops, and the PM Kusum Yojna, that supports the expansion of solar pumps in the agrarian economy.
