Union Minister Inaugurates Solar Power Project In Rajasthan
Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi on 19 July 2025 inaugurated the 435 MW Gorbea solar power project developed by Zelestra India in Rajasthan.
The Gorbea solar project was delivered in eight months, and comes with a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). It is spread across 1250 acres. The solar project will generate 755 GWh of energy, able to power approximately 128,000 households and reduce 7.05 lakh tonnes of carbon emissions per year.
Mr Joshi appreciated the project’s use of advanced TOPCon bifacial mono PERC modules and more than 1300 robotic cleaning units for optimum performance.
Lauding the start of the solar project, Mr Joshi said it is a shining example of what is possible through visionary leadership and honest intent. “With every megawatt we generate, we are not just producing power, we are building a New India,” he remarked, adding that the project reflects the speed and scale of change.
The minister also highlighted that the project has turned farmers into partners in India’s energy journey, as the land used has been leased from them, providing them stable income. “Our farmers are no longer just food providers. They are now energy providers as well,” he said. Mr Joshi told the gathering that the construction of Gorbea solar project employed over 700 local workers, thereby contributing to local livelihood generation and skill development. He added that the entire evacuation infrastructure, including the on-site substation and a 6.5 kilometre transmission line, was completed in just five months.
Speaking on the full commercial operations of the Gorbea solar project said, “Gorbea showcases our ability to engineer execution-focused solutions and deliver major projects ahead of time and below budget. Thanks to SECI’s commitment to clean energy, Gorbea has already delivered many economic and social benefits. Over the next 25+ years, Gorbea will be delivering a positive impact to the environment and supporting the energy transition underway across India”.
