The government on April6, 2026 clarified that the LPG supply in India remained sufficient, with additional cargoes already tied up to meet the demand.

Speaking to reporters about the gas crisis, Mrs Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary with Petroleum Ministry acknowledged that the nearly 35-day long crisis in the Gulf has affected India’s supplies. To counter that, the Indian Government has taken all steps to ensure that citizens face minimum hardship. She further added that senior leadership at oil and gas companies, including CMDs have been going in the field and inspecting the supplies. Meetings are also being held with State governments on a regular basis to ensure smooth distribution of LPG and to take strict action against instances of black marketing and hoarding. Ms Sharma said there were no reportings of a dry out at any LPG distributorship, and supply operations continue at scale.

Ms Sharma stated that almost 18 crore homes have been delivered LPG cylinders in the past five weeks. Around 50 lakh LPG cylinders are delivered every day, with online booking reaching a record level of 97 percent. To prevent diversion of LPG cylinders, delivery authentication through OTP has been widely implemented, now covering nearly 90 percent of deliveries. Distributors are operating even on holidays and Sundays to ensure uninterrupted and convenient supply for all consumers
