India’s Ethanol Blending Targets Close To 19%: Hardeep Puri

Union Minister for Petroeum and Natural Gas Hardeep Puri annouced on social networking site X that ethanol blending with petrol targets ahead of scheduled. Mr. Puri wrote that India’s targets of ethanol blending were close to 19% well ahead of schedule.

Commenting on the achievement, Mr. Puri said India has moved towards self-reliance in the field of energy. He wrote that many employment opportunities have been created and youth are getting jobs. Farmers’ income too has increased, pulling the agriculture sector up.

On 24th October 2024, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas had announced achieving of 15% ethanol blending. The blending of ethanol surged from 38 crore liters in 2013-14 to 545 liters in 2023-24. Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas had then set a target of increasing this share to 20% in 2025. Mr. Puri’s announcement comes just three months after that announcement.

Writing about the achievement, Mr. Puri said India alternatives to had saved Rs 1,13,007/- crore in the last 10 years and farmers had been paid Rs 96,250/-. Carbon dioxide emissions also fell by 578 metric tonnes. Mr. Puri further wrote about the availability of crude oil alternatives were at 192 metric tonnes.
