Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA) chairman and MD Pradip Kumar Das said on 28 August, 2025 that India has firmly entered the acceleration phase of its green transition. Mr Das was speaking at the Economic Times Rajasthan Business Summit, in Jaipur during a panel discussion titled “Green Transition – Innovative Development and Financial Models for Renewable Energy”.

Stressing on his statement, Mr Das underlined the recent achievement of India crossing 237 GW of renewable energy (RE) capacity and contributing to 50% of installed power. He said that to achieve India’s target of 485 GW by 2030 will require annual additions of nearly 50 GW per year. These in turn will need to be supported by stronger domestic manufacturing, timely grid expansion and sustained investments, he added.

Mr. Das noted the recent spate of oversubscribed IPOs, rising retail participation and a increase of FDI by 2.5 times in the past three years pointed to a growing investor confidence in India’s clean energy story. He underlined that renewables are now seen as a mainstream growth sector, as evidenced by the shift in global and domestic capital flows.

Mr. Das cautioned that sustaining the growth in RE sector will require faster credit appraisal, financing the entire RE value chain with tailored and innovative financing models, and closer collaboration across policymakers, PSUs, investors and industry leaders to ensure projects move swiftly from planning to commissioning and India stays on track to exceed its 2030 clean energy ambitions.
