PNGRB, Assam Gas, Tripura Gas Organize Workshop On CGD Safety
Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) organized a knowledge sharing workshop titles “Strengthening Safety in the City Gas Distribution (CGD) Network” in partnership with Assam Gas Limited and Tripura Gas Company Limited. The workshop was held in Guwahati, Assam on 23 and 24 January.
Mr AK Tiwari, Member, PNGRB delivered the keynote address that this workshop. Commenting on the workshop, he said that “The flow of safety culture is broadening through this type of knowledge sharing workshop.” He also highlighted the role critical of CGD entities as Natural Gas demand creators and assessors in the country.
He highlighted importance of CGD networks through which consumption of gas in CGD sector will increase significantly in the coming decade. So, ensuring safety and integrity of CGD networks is essential to ensure supply security and catering energy demand of the nation.
Mr. Tiwari shared that all energy sources will coexist, and every energy source will find it’s place in the energy basket. However natural gas will surely be the safer, preferred and less polluting energy source which will be the transitional fuel.
The country is witnessing consumption of gas in CGD with approx. 10% CAGR. Mr. Tiwari advised CGD entities operating in northeast regions of India to speed up the progress of setting up the gas network and CNG infrastructure.
He highlighted that safety concerns for CGD networks is more crucial as it is present in close vicinity of the general public and within city limits.
Safety apart from legal and regulatory compliances can impact reputation of the entity, energy supply/security, FDI/investors’ confidence, merger & acquisitions and insurance cost if concerns aren’t addressed. He also highlighted the need and importance of consumer connect in safety management.
