Reliance Infra Forays Into Renewable Energy Manufacturing

Reliance Infrastructure announced that it plans to enter into renewable energy manufacturing. It plans to set up integrated solar equipment and battery manufacturing units. The Anil Ambani- led Reliance Group, of which Reliance Infrastructure is a part, currently operates power pants in Goa, Kerala, Jogimatti and Samalkot with a combined generating capacity of 441MW. Reliance Group is also into energy distribution through another subsidiary, Reliance Power.

Announcing it on social media site X, the company stated that several key leadership appointments would be made for the company’s foray into renewable energy. The company announced the appointment of Ivan Saha as CEO of its renewable manufacturing business. Mr. Saha is currently CEO of solar module manufacture Vikram Solar, where he also heads manufacturing and P&L. He has over 25 years of experience in semiconductors, solar and MEMS design, development and manufacturing. In his earlier outing as CTO of ReNew Power, he was responsible for setting up of 4 GW greenfield manufacturing business that included solar wafers, cells and modules.

For its battery manufacturing endeavor, Reliance Infrastructure announced the appointment of Mushtaque Hussain as its CEO. Mr. Hussain was formerly with Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance New Energy as Senior Vice President and Head of Manufacturing of its Battery division. He also brings experience of having worked at Tesla as a senior manager at its Texas Giga Factory.

Reliance Infrastructure announced a third appointment, that of Dr. Shubham Dasgupta as its CTO of solar manufacturing. Dr. Duttagupta is currently VP and unit head at Reliance New Energy. He is involved in research and development as well as development of new products. He was previously associated with the Solar Energy Research Institute at National University of Singapore.

The company did not provide any timeline to when the businesses would be set up or how much will be invested in them.
