Energy Transition Sector Can Generate 4 Lakh Jobs in Odisha: Study
Delhi-based climate think-tank Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) released a study that makes the statement that green initiatives in the sate of Odisha have the potential to generate a million jobs as well as investments by 2030. To that end, the study has identified three economic sectors that can help in this endeavor, one of them being energy transition.
The study, titled ‘How a Green Economy can Deliver Jobs, Growth and Sustainability in Odisha’ postulates that shifting towards a non-fossil-fuel based economic activities such as deployment of renewable energy (RE) technologies, storage technology, RE component manufacturing, industrial decarbonization and decentralized RE for powering livelihoods.
Authored by Abhishek Jain and Gunjan Jhunjhunwala, the study says ‘The ET sector can generate around four lakh jobs and INR one and a half lakh crore in market opportunity with an investment of just less than INR three lakh crores, and the CE sector can generate 30 thousand jobs and INR 10 thousand crores in market opportunity with an investment of less than INR three thousand crores. The combined sectors of bio-economy and nature-based solutions can generate a little more than five lakh jobs and INR 26 thousand crores in market opportunity with an investment of around 64 thousand crore.’
