Tata Power Sets Up Two Skilling Centers In TN
Tata Power, part of the Tata Group, has set up two solar skill centres of excellence (ScoE) in Tamil Nadu. The two centres were set up in Pettai (Tirunelveli) and Sattur (Virudhunagar) by Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI) in a public-private partnership (PPP) with Tamil Nadu government’s Directorate of Employment & Training (DET).
The centres were jointly inaugurate by Tirunelveli District Collector Dr. R. Sukumar and Tata Power Solar CEO Mr. Parthasarathy Balaji.
The centres will deliver industry-aligned courses in renewable energy technologies like solar installation and maintenance, energy efficiency and electrical safety. These courses, aligned to the Center’s NCVET/NSDC standards, are aimed at creating installers and technicians, supervisors and vendor-entrepreneurs. They are offered under Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s (MNRE) PM: Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana that is aimed at providing free electricity to homes by providing incentives for installing rooftop solar panels. They will provide nationally recognised certification to participants for their faster placement with engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) vendors, channel partners and retailers.
In a press release, Tata Power thanked the Government of Tamil Nadu for their support in establishing the centres. It said that the centres will play a vital role in advancing green skill development and sustainable livelihoods in Tamil Nadu.
