VRSCCL to soon tap solar energy
If things go as planned, then the Vashi Railway Station Commercial Complex Ltd (VRSCCL) will soon be tapping tap solar energy on terrace, which is 1.5 lakh sq ft, according to a report in the leading national daily.
The report said the complex, which is better known as Infotech Park, receives ample sunshine on its terrace and would help in reducing electricity usage by VRSCCL.
The amount thus saved would help recover the capital cost of installing the solar panels. It would also go a long way in helping Navi Mumbai attain the status of Eco City for which Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has tied up with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), the report said.
It quoted R Pawar, VRSCCL chairman, as saying; “There is an issue of capital expenditure but it would be economical in the long run. The proposal will be tabled before the board for discussion next month to obtain the approval.”
It further said that VRSCCL was a maintenance company that included directors from City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) and companies functioning from the building, who had taken the premises on lease.
The report also quoted Tejasvi Suddhapalli, who works for a Hyderabad-based company and has had held discussions with VRSCCL; “The power generation, once panels are installed, will likely be around 240KW. Even if we look at 200KW, it would amount to an average generation of 25,000 units in one month.”
This, Suddhapalli, said could be upped to 30,000 units depending on sunshine and could dip during monsoon to 15,000 units.
