2025 To Be The Year Of Electric Vehicles: TCS Global Study

A new study by Tata Consultancy Services, a global leader in IT services, consulting, and business solutions, finds that more than half of consumers planning to buy a vehicle are likely or very likely to consider an electric vehicle (EV).
The study, titled TCS Future-Ready eMobility Study 2025, was released at the Detroit Auto Show. It surveyed over 1,300 anonymous respondents countries spanning USA, Canada, UK & Ireland, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, China, India, Japan and Australia and New Zealand. The respondents included transport manufacturers, charging infrastructure players, fleet adopters, consumers and EV adoption influencers.
The study found that sustainability and lower operational costs were the key considerations driving EV adpotions among the respondents. At the same time, the perceived environmental benefits of owning and EV was debated by consumers and influencers, as nearly half of them talked about the holistic carbon output of EVs. Fleet owners, showed higher optimism, pointing out the lifetime cost savings of owning EVs. Fleet adopters, in fact, were willing to pay a premium for EVs than for traditional internal combustion engine vehicles.
Commenting on the report, Anupam Singhal, President, Manufacturing, TCS said, “he electric vehicle industry is at a defining crossroad, navigating the complexities of scale and transformation. While nearly two-thirds of consumers are open to choosing electric for their next vehicle, manufacturers face challenges like advancing battery technology, complex vehicle designs, and production economics. At TCS, our Future-Ready Mobility vision focuses on creating an interconnected ecosystem powered by AI and Gen AI to drive smarter decision-making, enhanced customer experiences, and deliver scalable, sustainable solutions. By addressing these critical challenges, we are accelerating the global shift toward electrified and sustainable transportation.”
